This is an example of a custom designed mosaic installation at an upscale delicatessen located on Long Island, New York.
The customer was seeking a themed focal point for the decor. The frieze mosaic extends across two walls: one is eye-level (seen the second image, left and the image seen below); while another is installed above commercial glass-door refrigeration units (seen in the top establishing image, left).
In both cases the predominant theme of food and beverage — essentially the business of a deli — are seen in the mosiac. These items are juxtapositioned with basketry, pottery and floral objects, some of which are bas relief and add to the overall effect of providing a sense of embracing "Old World" ornament within a modern establishment.
The mosaic is set off by cherry wood detailing — used throughout the store — and is both upbeat and captivating.
